Fairburn Road near Doris Road

The Douglasville Police sit in the parking lot of Gables Sporting Goods and catch vehicles coming around the curve (legal?) in front of the motorcycle place, FreeWheeling. They were there are least three times a week. Fairburn Road is a 5 lane road but the speed limit is unreasonably low and one which almost no one obeys. The patrol car is camoflouged against the back drop of stores and other parked vehicles so you don’t see them until it’s too late. I travel Fairburn Road every day. They patrol this road religiously. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve witnessed someone pulled over (including myself).

Bright Star Road near Interstate 20

This is the most peculiar thing I have ever seen happen. This WAS an impressive speed trap, a school zone a mile long that was in force from 7AM to 4PM (all day long). What made it amazing was the 50 yeards in the middle where the school zone ended from both sides. If you had a lapse of attention or didn’t know the area, you’d shoot through a school zone at 45. It was brilliant, a real money maker.

What happened is what’s weird though. Seems parents were complaining because they actually didn’t use the trap very often and vehicles regularly rant the road at 60 while kids were going to school. So the county (Douglas) solved the problem by removing all of the school zone markings and signs from the front of the school. Seems their drug interdiction efforts on I-20 were netting them what they needed and the speed trap wasn’t even being used OR enforced. Even the sheriffs used the convenient throughway at high speeds. So what the hell, so a few kids might get killed, at least they can proudly proclaim victory at keeping some loser from getting high. And stopping losers from getting high is way more important than protecting a school zone. Douglas county government is AMAZING!

This county uses Sheriff cars, black F.I.N.D. cars, and Georgia State Patrol. There will be one car that calls in to other cars that are waiting on the other side of the bridge to take chase after the ‘offending’ vehicle. We have seen as many as 7 cars on the top of the ramp waiting.

Capps Ferry Road

Capps Ferry is a wide, smooth, fairly flat and straight two-lane with a 45MPH speed limit. Douglas County cops love to sit next to the road, using stationary RADAR, to catch anyone doing 55 or more (most people).
