New Orleans, Louisiana Speed Traps
Interstate 10 near New Orleans East – Irish Bayou
Coming to or from New Orleans Via Slidell (between twin spans and New Orleans East). They hide everywhere, and tend to pull over lines of cars.
New Orleans Parking Avenue
This isn’t an actual speedtrap, but I’m hoping this gets posted. The "meter maids" in New Orleans are tough. They don’t make an hourly or salaried pay. They get paid per ticket they write. They will write a ticket even if your time isn’t up. In New Orleans, always park in a lot or garage!
Esplanade Avenue near Verna Court
School zone for approximately two blocks near Cabrini High School. Police officers usually hide between Verna Court and Leda Court.
Interstate 10 west or east near right after the twinspan if going to NOLA or about a mile before the twinspan going to Slidell
A traffic enforcement officer usually sits in the median of I-10 about a mile from the I-10 bridge that connects Slidell from eastern New Orleans (known as the twinspan). Anything over 78 WILL get a ticket.
Elysian Fields Avenue near St. Claude Avenue
This is not a speed trap, but is similar in its devious exploitation. The traffic light at Elysian Fields and St. Claude is set to change from yellow to red FAR too quickly for this size intersection (a 6-lane street crossing a 4-lane). At only 3 seconds, it is literally impossible to stop safely if the light turns yellow on you when you’re near the intersection. A few motorcycle cops are regularly located at this intersection, and undoubedly bring in a good amount of funding for the city as a result of this unsafe traffic light.
