US Highway 57 near State Highway 57

Piperton, TennesseeApr 28, 20060 Comments

Highway 57 East City limits. After crossing over the railroad overpass going out of town the roadway goes downhill toward the city limits. To stay under 40mph one must ride his brakes. The officer followed me until I started down the hill and when I reached 52 just before I reached city limits he pulled me over. At this time I thought I was Out of town so I thought I was obeying the speed limit. They were stopping people entering town after coming down a hill to enter town. They were caught coasting into the city. This stretch of highway of about half mile has only one driveway. The stopping zone officers use is on a hill and in a curve. This endangers flowing traffic as well as those pulled over as well as the officer issuing the citation. This is more dangerous than letting traffic travel at 55mph. This raises the question. Are they there to serve and protect or just raise revenue. I believe the latter to be true!

Russell Road near State Highway 196

Russell Rd. is clearly a speed trap now. I’ve grown up my whole life in Piperton (20+ years). I’ve seen the roads change name, and new roads put in. I’ve seen all the changes done recently out here, including the loads of people moving out here especially in the past 2 years since I’ve been away in the service. I come home for the holidays to enjoy some well deserved time off, and now I get to deal with this. The whole "City" (laughing as I say city) is now a speed trap. I have to deal with this over in Virgina and I come home and lucky me, now its here too. Only real cities need a police force. The County Sheriff patroling the area has always been fine enough. I live off of 196, and the few weeks since I’ve been home, I see these cops drive by my house all day & night long, sometimes 3 times in an hour. Russell Rd. used to not have a posted speed limit, but here recently they put up a 30 speed limit. Now since I’ve been driving here I’ve always traveled 40 to 45 on this road. It has the same driving conditions as Hwy 196, nothing the romotely bit dangerous that would cause the need for such a low speed. There’s only a couple of spots where the cops can hide on this road, both off to the south side of the road by the bridges. Hey "City" (again choking on my words)of Piperton, how about putting the money into fixing the "DIP" on Russell road instead of letting these cop cars consume gas money at a time when gas prices are soaring. There have been at least 3 attempts that I can remember to fix the infamous "DIP" in the past 5 years, and everytime they got some idiots working on it that end up makeing it worse than when they started it to begin with. And the whole 40mph out on 57 is just stupid. There is absolutely no reason for the speed limit to be 40 that far away from the the new 385 overpass. Just stupid. Nothing more than a speed trap and wasting money on gas for cop cars to sit at that gas station waiting for someone to come around the corner or top the hill doing 1 mph over the speed limit so they can wright some bogus ticket. As I write this, I have yet to be ticketed in this area, and will do my best to obey these insane speed limit laws. But I’ve drivin’ around these parts my whole life, and I still catch myself trying to do 55 on 57, and 45 out on Russel Rd. The only roads that have an agreeable speed is 196, Keough, and 72. I would like the state to (Start) what they said they’d do, and that is widen out 72. Everybody be on the lookout for a Red & Blue unmarked Crown Vic, and 2 marked cars. Thats all that I’ve seen so far, but I hear there is a white unmarked Dodge out there also. 6 total in all. And what the heck is it with taking down the old Signs and putting up these itty bitty signs that are half the size. Now thats just stupid. Sure you can still see them, but you almost have to be looking for them to see them. Just plain stupid. So much for home. Thanks City (again choking) of Piperton for making my vacation from the service such an enjoyable one. How about getting a post office and your own zip if your a city.

US Highway 72 near State Route 196

Piperton works very hard at night between 196 and the collierville city limits the speed limit is 55 but they have pulled people over for doing 56. They usually sit about half a mile west of 196 in a driveway to an old farm. Be careful they have a white crown vic with piperton on the side, a plain white Dodge Magnum, and a plain blue crown vic. They have only been working this spot since mid November 2005.

State Highway 57 and 196

All they do is set up and run radar. They are using a interstate hwy construction area to make there money. I hear if you are just a couple of miles over you will get pulled over.
