Smyrna, Tennessee Speed Traps
Because people fly through here doing 90 mph in both directions, cops have started positioning in the medians next to where the concrete barriers become grassy medians. If they’re on bikes, you can’t always see them. They WILL chase you down!
The entire town management attends this Church and it is a favorite spot for an illegal speed trap. Why illegal? Because it is private property they shoot from. If your traveling towards Nashville, slow down as you enter Smyrna.
Police sit at the new fire station on Morton just before the entrance to the Stewart Creek Schools. If you are traveling Motorn Road from Rocky Fork, the speed limit changes from 45 to 30 just at the hill. Once you crest the hill, the police has you in his sights and it’s too late. 30 mph is a bit low for this fairly rural stretch of road.
between 24 and the stewarts creek baptist church there are a few spots to get tagged on a regular basis.
1. police will sit on almaville heading toward the interstate, near quail ridge drive on the shoulder and tag commuters coming from the interstate
2. there is a new strip mall just past the main entrance to the Southpark complex.. right across from the previously mentioned trap. police will sit in the parking lots just behind the buildings, invisible to commuters on almaville traveling either direction until it’s too late.
3. the side entrance to the Southpark complex is further down almaville toward the church. lately, there will often be at least one car sitting in the exit tagging cars coming from 24/One mile, usually after dark.
best to refrain from doing over 45 from the time you get off the interstate to the time you are well past the church.
note: i was pulled over by a LEO on my motorcycle just before the church doing 55 in the 40.. it was very cold and i was given a warning, ive seen plenty of people get away with 50 through this stretch.
Traveling from the Interstate towards Nissan right before the bridge the speed changes from 55 mph to 45 mph. The bridge is a on a little bit of a hill and as you come down the incline (about 300 yds after the speed drop) the cops sit on the other side of the bridge running radar and they will also flag you over for not wearing a seat belt. Beware when approaching the bridge. It seems they are their more towards the end of the month.
