Irving, Texas Speed Traps
State Highway 183 near Nursery Road
This trap is on the Eastbound 183 Service Road at Nursery Road. On some mornings, a couple of motorcycle cops set up shop on the corner, right next to the Frank Parra dealership. The speed limit is 35 MPH and they get you as you are cresting the bridge that goes over the railroad tracks. You absolutely cannot see them until it is too late. It also doesn’t help that the sun is shining towards you.
You might be able to get by doing 40 MPH, but I cannot say this for sure. When they catch you, they point you out and point you towards the shoulder.
George Bush Turnpike near Las Colinas Boulevard
Southbound George Bush Turnpike, after passing over IH-635, or entering the turnpike from 635. About 1/2 mile before MacArthur Blvd (bridge) and the soon following Royal Lane exit. Patrol car is on the right shoulder of the tollroad, under Las Colinas Blvd Bridge, in obvious effort to collect more toll, than the 75 cents. Observerd 10 am.
US Highway 161 near Northgate Overpass
Traveling Southbound on 161 George Bush Turnpike, from Beltline Road.
Officers will sit in the Median of the Entrance Ramp to 161 and Highway 161, Behind the base of the south side of the Northgate overpass. It is difficult to see them because the highway slightly curves to the left and they can sit behind the wall a little scanning Oncomming Southbound traffic.
Story Road near Shady Grove Road
Cops patrol along the southern section of Story Road, mostly below Shady Grove, since there are hills downward, and they are just waiting for cars to speed up. Got hit with one ticket and now that I have a radar detector, didn’t get another one.
Northgate Road near Between Story and MacArthur Boulevard
Motorcycle cops in the median often look at cars headed Northbound. The road curves back and forth in this high traffic residential area making it difficult to notice the Police.
