Irving, Texas Speed Traps
State Highway 161 near Just before the entrance to G. Bush Turnpike
Going northbound, just before the entrance to the G. Bush Turnpike (SH-161) there is an overpass. Irving motorcycle cops place themselves in the median, shaded by the overpass, so you cannot see them. They apparently cannot patrol on the turnpike, but they also patrol the northbound service road there excessively. I see them pulling people over almost every day.
State Highway 114 near MacArthur Boulevard
Eastbound 114: look for motorcycle or patrol car under MacArthur bridge or just before bridge. Begin lookout after passing the 161/Bush turnpike. Westbound 114: watch out for surroundings of MacArthur bridge, after passing the merging Northwest highway ramp. The highway 114 near MacArthur Blvd is 1.5 miles of straight road, 3 eastbound lanes, and 4 westbound lanes, with excellent visibility. Enforcement every workday, 9am to lunchbreak. Training track for new ticket writing officers in Irving.
State Highway 114 near MacArthur Boulevard
In west bound direction: between O’Connor and MacArthur, heading towards DFW airport. In east bound direction: between 161/Bush Turnpike and MacArthur bridge, heading towards Dallas downtown. The 114 highway between Northwest Hwy and 161 is nearly 1 mile of straight road, with 3 lanes each direction, and excellent visibility. City of Irving cashes in on this intercity causeway. Looking out from the windows of the Nokia building I see daily catches in both directions of 114, especially between 9am and noon.
State Highway 183 near 12 Loop
As you head East on the service road for SH 183 (Airport Freeway) and approach Loop 12, there is a split. Going left takes you to Northbound Loop 12, going right takes you to Southbound Loop 12. Right before the split, there is a cop perched in a little “wedge”” who said that “”nearby residents”” had complained about accidents and speeders. Only one problem with that statement: this speedtrap is in an industrial area!”
Esters Road near Northgate Drive
Heading North on Esters, between Hwy 183 and Northgate: the 35 mph speed limit is posted closer to Hwy 183 and is below the normal flow of traffic for this somewhat busy street. Police love to hide behind some bushes in a church parking lot to your right just before Northgate. They will sometimes hide behind a church van facing Northgate to capture cars exiting 161 onto Northgate heading East.
