I really don’t think you use real rader. Second time I recieve ticket and only times in my 30 years of driving. last time at red light with car stopped. as soon as it turned green i was pulled over for speeding 65 mph. 10 year old son even started to argue with cop. Tn plates this time. Tried to explain to husband and after reading other posts now he believes me. who can drive 6 hours to fight it. You know where they can stick their traffic school tto. i took the increase in insfurance on my good driver record. thanks summersville

I too was "caught" in the Summersville Speed Trap. My story is almost identical to the others on this web-site. Out-of state, traveling to Fla, PM rush hour, going down the hill before stop light, etc. I am curious to know how many people were offered the on-line Traffic School Plea to avoid points in home state & insurance repercusiions?? And, about how many people took the class?? Enjoyed the advice from from another traveler–"travel downtown Summersville."

Route 19 North

Just reading a few of the present stories about this lovely town,I thought I would add my account of the tactics of the Summersville Police Dept.I was traveling north on route 19 and I was just telling my wife that I had better slow down because Barney was setting there, but it was too late(I was already done in for).Barney was putting his hat on and putting his vehicle in drive before I even got by.He was sitting just past the (small) 50 mph sign.I pulled over and at his request, handed him my DL and registration card.He then, after researching my clean driving record from N.C.,presents me with the Summersville Safety Driving Award which cost me a $132.00.I called the Summersville Police Dept. and I was told that they had a website that I could take at my convienience, which cost me an extra $20.00 for their literature or propaganda unwillfully.I’m amazed that the state of West Virginia is premitting the unlawfull act of entrapment and furthermore I would like to add that when traveling through Summersville WV.,(slow it down or better yet just don’t go through this one horse town).Let’s don’t help fund their future retirement nor their treasury fund.Someone needs to investigate this unlawfull acts and stop them in their tracks.

What can I say. A bogus speed reading in an unrealistic place that was targeted against out of staters. I won’t go there anymore. What a shameful place to have Americans targeting Americans!

WV Route 19

All other portions of Route 19 are 65 MPH. This portion of road has been artificially lowered to 50 MPH. City of Summersville police over-aggressively patrol this road, giving out literally millions of dollars in fines, particularly targering out of state visitors (who usually can’t return to fight the charges). Police work 2 and 4 patrol cars at a time, pulling over North and South bound cars at the same time. Radar is operated at the exact point you see the first 50 MPH sign, so your speed is measured before you can get your foot to the brake. Police rush to give you the ticket, and won’t let you plead your case. This city has a web site begging for tourism, but then they operate the most unfair, unnecessary, and over aggressive speed trap in the USA.
