Morrison, Colorado Speed Traps
Morrison, Colorado
Morrison, Colorado has many places where the speed changes in large increments.
Officers hide on the west side in the wooded area on the road parallel with C470 (Cty Hwy 93). The speed limit drops 20mph from 45mph to 25mph. You do NOT get any additional time to slow down once you pass the sign. The sign does spring up on you. There is a warning sign that there is a speed change ahead. The sign is quite a bit down the road from the actual speed change.
Highway 285 SB from Hwy 8 to Parmalee Gulch Road is also a favorite hiding spot for Morrison PD.
On route 93 south of Red Rocks just before entering Morrison
This trap is only used occasionally by the Morrison Police but is very nasty. They sit on the west side of the road concealed in a grown over parking space to catch people coming down (south on) route 93 past Red Rocks. You’ll be on their radar before you have any real chance to see them. You’ve been coming downhill and it’s real easy to overshoot at better than 25mph and the distance from the new speed sign to their spot is short. They’ll happily explain how you went through two signs (that are closely spaced together).
Morrison Area New Trap
Morrison officer will sit at a pull off area with all lights on as if they have some one pulled over or are attending to a situation that requires them to have their light on. As you drive by and are not able to move over to the left lane they then issued a citation for Not Giving Right of Way to a Emergency Vehicle. This is a 4 point Careless driving ticket and almost impossible to defend. Statue which they are using is CRS 42-4-1402 and CRS42-4-7052. This officer was a good 15 to 20 yard from the edge of the road and in his vehicle. I travel this section every day and it is rare not to see a Morrison officer either issuing a citation or waiting for the next victim. Traffic citations are a large source of Morrison’s revenue.
South on 285, approx 6 miles past I470 toward Indian Hills
On 285, as you pass Red Rocks Amphitheater, on your right and begin the climb up Turkey Creek Canyon, the speed limit changes from 55 MPH to 45 MPH. A Morrison Sheriff’s patrol car is often parked on the shoulder as you come around a sight obstructed corner. While the speed limit returns to 55MPH as you leave this stretch of the canyon, the 45MPH section is relentlessly protolled and motorists are ticketed. Colorado State Patrol uses the same pull out. Not to worry, there is ample room to pull over on the shoulder once you are flagged down, safely turnoff your engine and receive your citation.
Speed trap on both sides of Morrison. Coming and going.
Our tax dollars hard at work as police sit 30 feet from hwy c470 and 30 feet from the enterance of red rocks. Daily!! Consider entertaining yourself elswhere or prepare to pay!
