Long Beach, California Speed Traps
Palos Verdes Boulevard near Atherton Street
This stretch of Palos Verdes is between the Woodruff Exit from the 405 and California State University, Long Beach.
The speed limit is 40 mph and CHP sit in wait in the residential side streets in both directions, hoping to snag college students who are late for class. DO NOT go one tiny bit over 40 mph, or you’re ticket-bait. Clue as to how frequent the speed trap is: there are two donut shops at the one intersection.
Cherry Avenue near San Antonio Drive
Normally Two Motorcycle Officers Park in driveway of cemetary with radar guns aiming north on Cherry Ave. Just as you are crossing the intersection at San Antonio Drive. Speed limit sign 40 mph. Watch out early morning hours around 6:30 am to 9:00 am
Willow between Palo Verde and Los Cyotes
I’ve only seen this one once but the reason that I bring it up is because the one time I did see it I saw three motorcycle cops hiding in the side streets and three more in the process of writting people tickets. You should take extra caution on this street because there are a couple of school zones along this stretch.
Belflower Between Atherton and 7th Street
Motorcycle cops hide where ever they can, and watch out; for the speed limit is outragous. 40 mph…one side of the road is a 10 foot tall brick wall (commonly found on freeways) and on the other side of this 4 lane road is an indian burial ground. You would expect this speed limit to be 50 or so. Also there are some really good hiding spots along this road so don’t think that if you don’t see any cops that there are no speed traps.
Anehiem Between Redondo and PCH
Good mix of cars and motorcycles, I suspect that they are often on this road looking for drunk drivers.
