Interstate 270 near Germantown Road

Gaithersburg, MarylandJan 24, 20050 Comments

Frequently going back and forth between exit 6 and exit 16 on 270:
Trap 1: police car waited on Germantown road (overpass near exit 15), coming on northbound ramp of exit 15, chasing a north bound speeder just over 80 miles/hr (normal flow 70-75 miles/hr. I was about 100 yards behind, but going off exit 16, for a split second, thought it was coming after me.

Trap 2: Mid-day, between exit 13 and exit 15 on 270, 2 cars monitoring both directions, waiting at the open entrance of the stretch of walls in the middle; see them quite often, stops cars over 75 miles/hr

Trap 3: observed on weekend morning 9-11:00AM, 2 cars monitoring both directions between exit 8 and exit 9, near one of two open entrance in the middle or exit 9 overpass as described in one of trap description. appears to stop cars over 75 miles/hr, typically during clear or cloudy days

Darnestown Road near Muddy Branch Road

Gaithersburg, MarylandOct 03, 20040 Comments

They have now finished widening Route 28(Darnestown Road) from two lanes to four and the section of rt.28 from Muddy Branch Road to Quince Orchard Road has completely become open season. The limit has not been raised and remains at 40. It is now extremely easy to do 70+ on this road, due to the new pavement and wide lanes. They mostly sit around the intersection with Dufief but I’ve also seen them in the church parking lot across from GXS and by Kentlands, where the limit drops to 30. Beware, they’re extremely hard to spot because the officer uses a tripod and uses trees for cover. They then wave you into a cross street where four or five of them dole out citations. This road will likely continue to be trap-ridden because of the number of people that they are catching. FWIW, I was doing 50 and didn’t get waved down but that’s probably the fastest that they will allow you to get away with. BEWARE!
