Gaithersburg, Maryland Speed Traps

One of the most notorious 4-way stops up-county – I have seen as many as 4-6 police cars and bikes there – all Montgomery County, of course, looking to get speeders or seat belt abusers – if you approach that intersection, especially AM 7-9, or PM 4-7, make sure you are going slow and buckled in!

On Russell Ave., W of Montgomery Village Ave. (MD 124), behind Rosenthal Mazda/Nissan/Acura – cops are set up on the median with radar – coming up the hill on Russell from Christopher (right in front of Food Lion) watch out! Montgomer County cops mostly.

Traveling S on MD 355, Montgomery County cops park in the 7-11 lot (just N of Game Preserve Rd.) and use radar. Traveling N at the same spot, they are in the median N of Game Preserve Rd. and will pull you over there. Notice a police precinct and lots of cop cars across the street from the 7-11 – let this be a signal to slow down – you may be on their radar!

If travelling down Fields Rd. towards 370, follow the posted limit. There are two traffic lights on Fields road that are at intersections that lead to the Washingtonian (Rio) Center. The police sit about halfway between these intersections on the right side of the road hidden behind the sign for the neihborhood and will run out into traffic to get you.

Usually during morning traffic, but I have seen them late night as well. They sit in the entrance to an apartment complex about 150 to 200 yards from the Giant Food shopping center directly across from School Dr. If traveling south on Muddy Branch Rd.(toward Giant from 270 overpass) they are virtually impossible to see, and as you come over the ridge and down the hill they get you. They stand on the corner and will run out in front of you to pull you over. There is some sort of training facility nearby, so many nice weather mornings expect to see many(I have seen up to around 20) PIT’s standing on the corner learning to use the speed guns.
