Silver Spring, Maryland Speed Traps
University Boulevard near South of Beltway Before Piney Branch
Montgomery County Police set up about a mile south of the Beltway, before Piney Branch. This set-up is rarely there except on weekends during the day. Posted speed is 40mph, despite the fact that it is a 6-lane, divided highway. Typical road speed is just over 50, so they can get you for ten miles + over the limit and a bigger ticket. They pull over slews of people. They don’t set it up on weekdays, the cops themselves go 55+ on this same road all the time when they are just cruising around. It is just random taxation.
Georga Road near Conneticut Ave Avenue
This camera has just been installed. It is on the Georga Ave. side of the intersection, one pointed North and the other pointed South. Make sure you don’t run that light.
US Highway 29 near Fairland Road
Travelling Southbound on Route 29 towards Silver Spring. There is a red light camara at the intersection of Route 29 and Fairland Road. Be careful to stop at this red! It can be difficult since this is a US Highway and cars travel at 55+ MPH.
Bel Pre Road near Plaza Del Mercado
Argyle Middle School is a HUGE speed trap. The speed limit on Bel Pre Road is 35 MPH. 45-50 is a typical Bel Pre speed. The trap is at the middle school, at either the entrance or exit, usually the exit. Slow down around Northgate Drive. It’s right across the street from Plaza Del Mercado. I’ve seen traps set up during the morning rush hour, mid-afternoon a while after school lets out, and in the evening. Often times, there are traps late at night… they’ll get you at any time of the day, and it sucks.
Layhill Road near Briggs Road
Layhill Road, up from Middlebridge (residential neighborhood) to Indian Springs Country Club… Major speed traps. Usually afternoon, like RIGHT when high school lets out. I’ve only seen one trap at Middlebridge, but I’ve seen tons at the country club.
