Lyttonsville Road near 16th Street

Silver Spring, MarylandJan 21, 20070 Comments

When heading south on 16th street from Georgia Ave, they park the police cruiser on Lyttonsville Rd on the right side. 16th street angles down as you approach the speed trap so it is very easy to go faster than the 35mph limit. The exact location of the speed trap would have to be 1900 Lyttonsville Rd.

Bel Pre Road and Tynewick right before Georgia Avenue Road near State Route Georgia Avenue

Silver Spring, MarylandFeb 09, 20060 Comments

Tynewick & Bel Pre Road going West right before Georgia Avenue. Average speed is 45-50mph. NO ONE DOES 35MPH on this road………on the day I was stopped, they were set up with their radar cams and they stopped a long row of cars………They need to change the Speed limit or add a ton of speed bumps because the current speed limit is unrealistic…

State Highway 650 New Hampshire Ave. near Church

Silver Spring, MarylandJun 11, 20050 Comments

Once in a while you’ll find a single County officer on the Northbound side of New Hampshire Ave. after Randolph Road and before Good Hope — sitting either in one of many parking lots or side streets catching speeders going north.

With morning rush going Southward, this trap is usually set up during or shortly after morning rush and can be found up until evening rush. Once in a while, the trap will also be in the evening or on weekends. The posted speed is 40 (45 in places), but with three travel lanes, and center and shoulder turn lanes at one’s disposal, the posted speed seems a little overly ‘cautious’. Some Interstates are less roomy.

In any case, this isn’t the best trap since the only real "cover" for the officer is the unsuspecting, overly unobservant (I.E., far too typical area) driver. Anyone who keeps an eye out for this sort of stuff (and with half-decent protection) shouldn’t fall to this rogue’s idea of filling his/her quota.

State Highway 28 near Norwood Road

Silver Spring, MarylandJun 11, 20050 Comments

On either side of the (new) 28 to 198 extension of Norbeck Road, between Layhill and Norwood. The road is new, two lanes in each direction and divided by a wide, grassy median. East-bound there are no turn-offs (yet) and this road is begging to be run. Perfect for a little revenue generation.

East-bound (I.E., from Layhill towards Norwood), the road comes up a slight hill from the light at Layhill and curves to the leFort Just as you crest the hill and come around the bend, County police are often set up on the right shoulder, just before the light at Norwood. Frequently there are more than one officer, so seeing a victim or two already nabbed doesn’t mean their slots are full. They will often be set-up with a tri-pod (laser) and/or behind a raised trunk lid of an unmarked car to duck, peek and fire.

West-bound (I.E., from Norwood towards Layhill) an officer might be laying in wait with radar in or near the car at the road into the Farm. But, I’ve only seen this a couple of times — and not recently.

16th Street near Georgia Avenue

Silver Spring, MarylandJan 11, 20050 Comments

The trap is on 16th ST where it intersects with Georgia Ave. A group of policemen sit in an area near a woodsy area. They don’t hide, but most people are going quickly, as it is a 6-lane street. This trap has been there for years and years. There is also another one a block down on the southbound side of 16th right before the bridge. Just slow down on this 2 block stretch and keep your eyes open!
