Silver Spring, Maryland Speed Traps
Randolph Road near JohnKennedy High School
This speed trap is located on Randolph Road from John F. Kenendy High School rd to New Hampshire Avenue. The speed limit runs 45 MPH until the last four blocks towards new hampshire avenue. There is usually a cop on the right side of the road on a motorcycle or just standing outside with a radar gun. So you have to watchout on the hills. I have a radar gun to keep myself safe, but thought it might be usefull for other people to know. Cop uses a radar gun on K band.
Bel Pre Road near Georgia Avenue
Speed limit 35… NOBODY does 35… it’s all a speed trap after Georgia Avenue, until you’ve long passed Peppertree Farm Apartments… coming around the curve on Bel Pre heading towards Plaza Del Mercado/Argyle/Layhill… it’s generally fine. But slow down after that curve. Because Argyle, like mentioned elsewhere on this page, is a HUGE trap.
New Hampshire Avenue near Randolph Rd Road
North of Randolph Rd, On NH Ave, The Mont. Co PD will set up in the Driveway of the Buddhist temple, Aimed at the southbound traffic.
Rt. 29 after New Hampshire Ave but before University Blvd.
Police frequent this stretch of road on both North and Southbound sides. Going north bound on 29 police either set up at the WSSC parking lot on the right or in the lot next to the Citgo gas station. Going southbound police have recently started to hide in the WSSC parking lot (next to the waterfall) and occassionally a motorcycle cop sets up a little further down the road on a left hand turn lane. Both locations are hard to spot due the hills and curves on this stretch, speed limit is 40mph but traffic flows usually around 50mph.
New Hampshire Ave. (South) Before Beltway
This is a huge double speed trap. It is approx 3 or 4 blocks before powder mill road and before the beltway. The cops will sit with tripods on the right side of two side streets. They are two traps one after the other, just incase someone would speed up after the first one.The speed limit is 35 stay under 40.
