Police regularly set up a radar trap on the SOUTHBOUND lanes o fthe GW Parkway at the entrance ramp of Spout run Parkway. I have seen this mostly on weekends.

This trap is right after the speed is reduced from 50 mph to 40 mph.

Right as you approach the bridge that crosses over George Mason Drive (as you drive towards Glebe Road) a cop will sit in a marked cruiser with the trunk door up to hide his red lights. Cruiser is usually 20-30 feet from the bridge.

18th Street near Pentagon City Mall

Arlington, VirginiaJul 12, 20060 Comments

on 18th street both directions, between pentagon city mall and crystal city.

the speed limit is low 25-35mph, sometimes there is an arlington county pd car waiting on the side of the road on the curve, right in front of the firehouse.

other times, i’ve seen cycle cops standing in the middle of the median pointing right across from the park.

also, by the crystal house apt building and the post office near south eads street, officers will set up during am rush hour.

110 both directions, particularly southbound, during both am and pm rush. officers placed before pentagon entrance at the curve. also they will be waiting on the uphill ramp to Rt. 1 JD Highway. You view of them will be blocked by the overpass.

northbound 110N, they are waiting immediately before the Memorial Bridge on a side access road, right next to a building.

othertimes, they are waiting immediately after the Memorial Bridge exit on the right.

Walter Reed Drive near King Street

Arlington, VirginiaJul 11, 20060 Comments

Do NOT speed anywhere along Walter Reed Drive, anywhere from Rt.50 (Walter is actually called Fillmore at that point), all the way to where Walter Reed meets King Street. The stretch of road im referring to is roughly 3 miles total, but with many street lights. The speed limit varies from 25 to 30 mph on this stretch, and i have personally received 3 tickets on this stretch, 2 in one day, and at seperate traps. Going north OR south on Walter Reed at South 7th St. (Patrick Henry Elemenatary School) they sit parked on the side of the road. Further down (south) on Walter Reed (after the bottom of the BIG hill) they sit on both sides of the road: one trap is at the bottom of Dinwiddie ST. and the other is on the northbound side, at a small parking lot that belongs to the Fairlington Apartments where they hide behind a telephone pole.

Anyway, i have seen them hide at other random spots on this stretch, so now as a rule i never speed ANYWHERE on it. They tend to be there during morning of afternoon rush hour, but i have also seen them there on an occasional evening.
