Glebe Road

Arlington, VirginiaJun 13, 20041 Comments

This is not a speed trap, but a trap none the less. On Glebe Road, the police hide in a small shopping center and ticket drivers who are coming off Highway 50. This is a right on red violtion. I get hit for 154.00 dollars! The signs are not placed so you can easily see the warning not to turn right on red. The sign should be atache to the red light itself. That is where you are looking. This is blantant trap for revenue, under the pretense of public saefty.

State Highway 120 near Military Road

Arlington, VirginiaJun 08, 20040 Comments

As four-lane North Glebe Rd (St Rte 120) descends to cross the Potomac River at Chain Bridge the posted limit decreases to 20 mph before it is really necessary for most modern vehicles and just before the road bends to provide an excellent vantage point for police. While there may be some justification for buses or trucks, or under bad conditions, generally the highway is clear and the slow-down seems to just benefit the county treasury since there is no way to see trap.

State Route 309 near US Highway 29

Arlington, VirginiaJun 08, 20040 Comments

Four-lane Old Dominion Drive is posted at 25 mph despite very light traffic between its separation from Lee Hwy on one end and rejoining Lee Hwy about a mile later. Police hide behind trees and run out into the road to flag down motorists. Needless to say no one goes 25 mph in this stretch.

Clarendon Boulevard near downtown clarendon

while traveling on clarendon blvd in clarendon a cop will be standing off the road at the new clarendon center shopping area [barnes&noble/pottery barn]. there are usually quite a few people walking up and down the street so it’s hard to notice. the speed limit is 25 in that area and 30 everywhere else on that road. what a racket, who are the criminals here?

North Glebe Rd and 17th St Road

Cruiser, (saw a Motorcop pull up as I was leaving) Again hiding behind the ol’telephone pole routine, After you exit I66W take a right heading toward Lee Hwy, you come thru a light, As you come over the first little hill next to the church (on yer left) smile real big because Officer is looking at you from the crest of the hill almost a mile away! better slow down then it is 30mph (road should be 40-45) because it is too late if you slow down as you come up the hill. She literally pops out of nowhere with LIDAR in hand, then you see the cruiser. Busted. Arlington County has an MO to their speed traps, If you know what to look for you can avoid them. I know now!
