In the Emporia City area starting around Mile post 30 until the end of the State. They hide between the berms in the middle and just pick you off one by one. As soon as you get the ticket, you also start getting letters from lawyers in Emporia, offering their services! What a scam. They will take personal checks, but the fines are very high. This is a set your cruise control area for sure. Tell all your friends about this one.

Emporia, Virginia is well known for being a speed trap. One evening 2 months ago I was pulled over and told to be going 72 in a 60mph zone when I was going 58-60mph on cruise control. I fought the ticket in court and the speeding charge was dropped, but I was given a ticket for faulty equipment since according to the judge the officer’s radar was accurate but my odometer wasn’t! Imagine that! You can’t even go through their town going the speed limit anymore without being wrongly accused of going faster than you really are.

As of 06/2007, the Viginia State Patrol is initiating a speed enforcement program en masse. having traveled the I-95 route extensively for the past two years, I counted 36 State patrol vehicles (both marked and unmarked) either posted or ticketing along I-95 north and south. The vehicles are stationed along the emergency crossing lanes in the wooded areas along the highway. Additionally, there were two vehicles per crossing lane aimed inn each direction. On the reurn trip the same day, I counted 25 state patrol vehicles between Emporia (10 miles north of the NC/VA state line) and north of Richmond (near Exit 89) to Fredericksburg. This is obviously a state trap to boost revenue. I would like to see the statistics on how many out-of-state drivers were ticketed vs. others?

When entering or leaving I-95 to go East or West the local Police and Sheriffs departments set in the large meridan behind a treeline, just below a small hi-way grade. the speed limit drops suddenly to 40 from 60 or 65. If you are not paying attention and slow to that speed quickly..they will ticket you. I have seen 5 – 6 cars stopped once for speeding just outside Emporia alone.
