State Highway Route 29 near State Highway Route 175

Columbia, MarylandDec 12, 20050 Comments

There is a pretty large apron in the median between north- and south-bound lanes of traffic on Route 29, south of the Route 175 exit. Speed limit is 55 mph. Southbound traffic is especially vulnerable. If I drive through that area late at night (10 PM to 2 AM), I’d bet there is a 30-40% chance at least one Howard County police car will be sitting there. I have seen as many as FOUR cars parked there, always with their lights off, usually parked parallel to the traffic flow, facing back up toward the top of the hill north of the trap. There is no roadside lighting, making them utterly invisible until the last few seconds. I always assume they are there late at night.

Usually two county officers will sit there and take radar. Even if you postpone your court date, the officer will still show and you have no hope, so make sure you go 25-28 mph.

State Route 29 near State Route 32

Columbia, MarylandMay 30, 20050 Comments

(Mainly weekends) Travelling north on Rt 29, prior to the Rt 32 exit. You will be travelling up a hill, preventing you from seeing the speed trap on the other side. As you crest the hill, they are waiting with the laser, on the shoulder with 5 or 6 police cars.

State Route 100 near Snowden River Pkwy Exit

Howard County sits in the exit loop while you approach the loop and he paints you as your exiting Rt 100 and while you enter the loop to get on Rt 100.

Governor Warfield Parkway near Windstream Drive

Columbia, MarylandJun 21, 20040 Comments

Not a very long stretch of road, Governor Warfield Pkwy is one big hill with 2 lanes seperated by a median. Driving up the hill is fine, comming down the hill towards Little Patuxent Pkwy or the Mall in Columbia can be dangerous for speeders. At the bottom of Governor Warfield Pkwy is a stop light, the Columbia Mall entrence is on your right, and on your left is Windstream Drive. The cops will park in the median at the bottom of Gov. Warfield and catch you comming down the hill towards that stop light. Its a 35MPH road, if you know where im talking about either you speed down it like me and get caught or you ride your brakes the entire trip down the hill because it is very difficult to keep it under 35. Mostley cops hang out in the mid-day, they like to catch kids comming home from Wilde Lake High School.
