Washington Boulevard near State Route 50

Arlington, VirginiaFeb 27, 20040 Comments

Officer sits in curbside parking right before Rt50, monitoring southbound traffic. Speed limit is 35, but increases to 45 right after rt50. Walks out into traffic to flag cars over. Seems to only do one car at a time. Dangerous, because you have to slam on your brakes and then find an open space to pull over to by the curb. Claimed to be using laser to go "car to car at 500ft". Went to court and this officer had more tickets than any other. A lot of people were supposedly caught at 45. I think this guy just flags cars randomly. bogus…

Interstate 66 West near Mile Marker 70.5 exactly

Arlington, VirginiaFeb 09, 20040 Comments

An Arlington County police cruiser will sometimes be parked on the right side of the road around a slight right hand bend at mile marker 70.5

I assume he is only catching people doing at least 10 MPH above the posted 55 MPH speed limit.

I have seen him there a half-dozen times between 12:00 AM and 5:00 AM (middle of the night).

George Mason Street near State Route 7 King St.

As you come over the hill on George Mason, going North/East, from Route 7, there’s usually a cop (car or motorcycle) with radar hidden behind lots of cars parked on the street. The hill is steep enough to put you over the limit without thinking about it. It’s one of the more famous speed traps on Arlington, but I’ve seen many suckers get socked.

Wilson Boulevard near 10th Street

Arlington, VirginiaJan 14, 20040 Comments

When the police get out of their car, or off their motorcycle and stand in the street with their radar gun, they’re pretty obvious, but they still catch people. And when they’re hidden behind parked cars, you’re dead meat. It’s a 25 MPH zone, where 35 seems reasonable. They catch so many there that they work in teams of 2 or 3.

State Highway Lee near Glebe Road

Arlington, VirginiaJan 14, 20040 Comments

I’ve seen cops stand at the bus stops, leaning on the sign, with their radar gun at their hip.. Seriously devious. They also seem to come out of nowhere and ride your tail, like they’re pushing you to go faster. It’s posted 30 and is definitely safe enough for 40 or 45.
